Post-operatory complication after a partial gastrectomy

Case history

Thérèse Guay is a 76-year-old woman who underwent a partial gastrectomy two days ago. The patient complained of frequent dyspepsia and epigastric pain (relieved by antacids), weight loss, and a sense of fatigue. After a series of tests, a biopsy was performed that confirmed gastric cancer. A partial gastrectomy was performed to remove the cancerous lesion.

She is now in a digestive surgery unit. A nasogastric tube (NGT) is in place, with intermittent aspiration, and she is currently NPO. She has an IV and an abdominal bandage. Her post-operatory period was without incident.
